When looking for a fun family getaway for your crew that includes Fluffy and Fido, look no further than the Surfsand Resort (148 West Gower Avenue; 503-436-2274
The resort has generously appointed guest rooms with gas fireplaces, bathtubs built for two, patios with an envious view of Haystack Rock, and beach access mere feet away from every door will await you and your family at this quaint little charmer by the sea.
When making your reservation for Surfsand Resort, be sure to include the number of pets you will be bringing along, as well as their names and sizes. This will equate to an appropriate treat upon your arrival at the resort. There you will be handed your “walking papers” (a.k.a. poop bags) and a small bag of scrumptious snacks for your little (or big!) pooch. Water bowls, towels, extra snacks, and pet beds will be ready for you and your fur children the moment you arrive.
We should mention that not every room at the Surfsand Resort has a view of the ocean and Haystack Rock. Be sure to reserve a room in the beachfront building as that is the best angle to see it all – and be thoroughly impressed.
When it’s time to grab a bite to eat and do a little exploring, put away your sandals and flip-flops and get into something a little more suitable for fine dining at the unparalleled Wayfarer Restaurant (1190 Pacific Drive; 503-436-1108
One note of caution for non-pescetarian vegetarians, go to enjoy the view, delight in the wondrous wine selection, but you may leave hungry. This isn’t a vegan establishment; it’s built to serve up ocean and land flavors. There is, however, a delectable mushroom ravioli dish on the menu that is sure to please.
After dinner, take a walk along the sand or simply go back to your room and sit in the Adirondack chairs on the patio. Have leftovers? No problem, there is a fridge in the room – as well as a microwave. A coffee pot is there, too, but we weren’t terribly impressed with the bean selection. Still, in a pinch, it may just do the trick. If you’re staying in a one bedroom beachfront room, pull out the sleeper sofa, put on the TV or some tunes, light the gas fireplace, and start relaxing! It is the beach after all…
Not quite ready to relax just yet? Want to try out the rain shower in the bathroom or the extremely large bathtub adjacent to it? Go for it! And, in most rooms, there is a screen separating the bathroom from the living room that you can either open or close depending on your mood. There’s even a TV on the wall so that you don’t miss a thing! Netflix is available as well as an extensive list of DVDs, games, and such that you can rent from the resort’s front desk.
Nestled along the northern coast of Oregon, Cannon Beach draws tourists year round with its quiet roar of both land and sea suitable for every budget and style.
