For one night West Hollywood will be about the boobs when Beats for Boobs Los Angeles takes off in Tinseltown October 10.
Kristen Hosack was blown away and inspired after she went to the San Francisco event last year, so much so she brought it to Los Angeles.
Kristen raised nearly $7,000 from the inaugural Beats for Boobs – Los Angeles last year. She anticipates this year that the event will attract more than 500 guests at the event’s new location at Avalon, Hollywood’s premiere night spot where everyone will be bumping and grinding on the dance floor and raising the awareness and money for breast cancer.
Keeping with the tradition of non-tradition, the Los Angeles Beats for Boobs event will have live graffiti art installations throughout the night along with other art, fashion, food, and music, says Kristen.
The event is set to show off Los Angeles’ talent with DJs Marques Wyatt (Deep LA), Mr C, Jeniluv, and others who will be spinning the vinyl while local fashion designers Stila, Modern Archives, Kucoon, Coral Castillo Designs on the runway and others will be performing. A gallery of local artists and photographers Janet E. Dandridge and Cerreah Laykin and others works will be exhibited at the event.
Kismet
In spite of being friends with Juliana Cochnar, the co-founder of Beats for Boobs with Radhika Ragsdale in San Francisco, and knowing Ashley Davidson, who heads up Seattle’s Beats for Boobs for more than a decade, and having friends who attended Beats for Boobs, she hadn’t been to an event, she says.
Curiosity got to her. Kristen, 33, a Los Angeles transplant from San Francisco, who produced AdJam, a battle of the bands between advertising agency bands produced by ThinkLA, a media arts collaborative, for five years before retiring from that gig two years ago.
She used the break to head north with her girlfriend, Ashley Hamilton, to join their friends in her former home town at Beats for Boobs San Francisco.
“I just left being really inspired,” says Kristen.
So excited that Kristen, who believes every U.S. city should have its own Beats for Boobs, ditched retirement and approached Juliana about producing the event in the City of Angeles.
“It should be done in every major city across the country,” says Kristen, who became the director of Beats for Boobs Los Angeles.
Kristen, whose 87-year old grandmother survived breast cancer and had a friend who was diagnosed with the disease, is attracted to Beats for Boobs because it’s more than a fundraiser for breast cancer, but a “celebration of everything local fashion, art, [and] food.”
Beneficiaries of Beats for Boobs L.A. include Busted Foundation, Boarding for Breast Cancer Survivors Scholarship Fund, and the L.A. Gay and Lesbian Center’s Breast Cancer Support Group.
