The Dinah Returns To Palm Springs For A 5-Day 30th Anniversary Celebration With New Dates And A Knock-Out Roster Of Grammy-Winning Entertainers

by Heather Cassell

You only turn 30 once, and The Dinah knows it.

Grammy artists Macy Gray and Yung Baby Tate headline the largest all-women’s party in the world next month. The Dinah returns to Palm Springs, California on a new date, September 29 through October 3, for a 5-day celebration.

The Dinah ladies are celebrating three decades of partying in California’s desert oasis in style after a year and a half of no in-person events. Prior to COVID, the weeklong event attracted more than 15,000 queer women and their friends from around the world to see world-renowned female performers and up-and-coming artists. They also got to rub elbows with their favorite celesbians.

The event was pushed out from its usual spring break dates due to the global pandemic to its current fall dates. People wanting to go to The Dinah must show proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test.

The premiere live performance event for women and gender variant artists, grew out of a small, one-night event with 1,500 queer women partygoers during the Dinah Shore Ladies Professional Golf Association’s annual Easter tournament in Palm Springs in the early 1990s. Today, it is a must-stop event on any female performer’s tour as thousands of women flocks to the California desert annually for The Dinah.

Breakout stars and emerging artists to #1 Billboard charters who have headlined the world-class event, include Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Bebe Rexha, Kesha, Iggy Azalea, Jessie Reyes, Tegan & Sara, Meghan Trainor, and most recently Lizzo among many others. A major attraction in the Greater Palm Springs area, the event has attracted major corporate sponsors.

Mariah Hanson, founder and producer of The Dinah, and her team put together a stellar lineup of critically-acclaimed and emerging artists for its 30th anniversary.

Grammy-Award winning artists Macy Gray (“I Try,” “Sweet Baby feat. Erykah Badu,” and “Sex-o-matic Venus Freak”) and rapper, singer, and record producer Yung Baby Tate (“I Am” and “Poof Be Gone ft. Yung Baby Tate, Yvette, and Cheerlebridee”) lead an impressive roster of entertainers during the 5-day event.

R&B and soul legend Macy, with her unmistakable raspy voice, was recently featured on Norwegian neo-soul group, D’Sound’s, collaborative funk song, “Save Some.”

Celebrating the 25th anniversary of the group’s first single, “Real Name,” the band brought together an eclectic group of artists from around the world to create a series of singles, like “Save Some.”

Yung Baby Tate is the daughter of singer-songwriter, producer, and actress Dionne Farris of Arrested Development and “I Know” fame and singer-songwriter and guitarist David Ryan Harris.

Paving her own musical path, Yung Baby Tate’s “I Am,” featuring rising Alabama rapper Flo Milli, off her 2020 album “After The Rain,” a deeply personal EP, quickly became an anthem of affirmations and a Tik Tok sensation. More than 2 million people have watched the “I Am” video on YouTube.

Macy and Yung Baby Tate will take the stage at the Dinah Holiday Party, Saturday, October 2 at the Palm Springs Convention Center.

Emerging Artists

Music’s current “it” girl MK xyz will take the stage Friday, October 1 at the Black and White Ball.

MK xyz’s song “Pass it” featuring G-Eazy gained traction racketing up more than 800,000 views on YouTube for the actress, singer, songwriter, performer and dancer. MK xyz is on an upward trajectory with her latest EP, “Sweet Spot” released by Epic Records in the spring and Netflix just casted her in its upcoming drama vampire series “First Kill.”

Non-binary artist and actor Kat Cunning (“Boys”) will take The Dinah’s Girl Spot Pool Party stage Friday, October 1.

Kat’s trans youth anthem, “Boys,” is being herald as “a life-affirming new single that deserves your attention” by Billboard.

The Dinah goers will be introduced to this year’s “Emerging Artist Contest” winners BOI Band and Smeared Lipstick Crew who are headlining the opening and closing parties at AsiaSF Palm Springs, respectively. AsiaSF Palm Springs is an official The Dinah venue.

The Dinah’s “Emerging Artist Contest” was created as a commitment to the community to offer womxn and non-binary talents coveted stage time and exposure.

The Dinah will reveal more artists and entertainment soon, according to the event’s August 11 news release.
