Booking Error Gives Girl A Private Flight From New York To Washington, DC
by Heather Cassell
Usually, when a technical error happens, you’re pulling your hair and perhaps spitting some swear words in frustration. You aren’t sitting pretty, as the solo passenger on a crew-only flight due to a booking error.
Lucky traveler Redditor shadybaby22, only how she’s identified in the media, won her flying lottery ticket on a flight from New York to Washington, DC January 3.
She was the solo passenger on this short flight.
The airline wasn’t mentioned in her post or in media reports.
“I got a whole plane to myself when I was accidentally booked on a flight just meant for moving crew,” she captioned her Reddit post Wednesday.
Blame it on the “bomb cyclone” hitting the East Coast and overworked airline agents scrambling to rebook passengers or just sheer dumb luck: She got a deal!
Shadybaby22 explained in the response string of her post, “I realized something was wrong when I was the only one in the waiting area 45-minutes before takeoff,” she wrote.
“One of the airport agents came over while I was waiting and asked if that was the flight I was waiting for, then said ‘I knew this would happen,'” she continued. “When my flight was canceled about eight hours earlier, a confused agent gave me and half the passengers a seat for the plane in the pic before another agent realized everyone could go on an earlier flight. They made an announcement on the speaker, but I’d already left to go back to my parent’s house nearby to wait for the next few hours. I was never contacted about the flight change.”
Shadybaby 22 snapped a shot of her good fortune and posted it. Now it’s starting to go viral with her post receiving 132,000 views and 5,024 comments and her story being picked up by Mashable, Conde Nast Traveler, and other travel media.
You know, I would be smiling too if I got so lucky. Girls That Roam’s only question is: Why couldn’t it have been to Europe, Africa, or India? … I guess we can’t be too greedy … the girl did land every frequent fliers’ dream or did this woman who got a solo flight to Greece from London in October 2017?
