Check Out Montana’s Romantic Charming Mountain And Urban Getaways
by Heather Cassell
Big Sky Country offers lovers star-filled skies to gaze, stunning mountain views, fresh powder and relaxation in cozy fireside lodges in quite sleepy mountain towns or more urban escapes in one of Montana’s charming communities.
It’s no surprise that Montana is one of the best destinations for a romantic getaway.
Escape to the mountains to connect with your significant other through adrenaline-pumping adventures or relax in a secluded mountain hideaway.
One of these communities is Whitefish. This charming community sits at the base of Big Mountain and is home to Whitefish Mountain Resort. An alternative to the sprawling resort, this town has five bed-and-breakfasts that are all ideal for a dreamy getaway, including Hidden Moose Lodge, Good Medicine Lodge, and Garden Wall Inn.
Hidden Moose Lodge is a log cabin style bed and breakfast that provides the perfect setting for winter getaways. The rooms and suites are generous as well as the amenities. Imagine you and your partner starting your days dining on made-from-scratch breakfasts or relaxing in an outdoor hot tub or by a river rock fireplace that provides a perfect setting for cuddling up after a day of playing outside.
Another cozy lodge is the nearby nine-room cedar-log Good Medicine Lodge. The lodge is known for its cozy accommodations, welcoming common areas, outdoor hot tub and a breakfast that features two to three entree selections. It also knows about romance, setting couples up with its Montana Romance Package that includes a two-night stay, with a welcome basket that’s full of amenities to create the perfect weekend getaway.
If you prefer luxury over a rustic stay in Whitefish, the Garden Wall Inn located a short walk from downtown provides a luxurious stay. Guests get cozy in the restored 1920-built property’s five sophisticated guest rooms and get pampered with keen attention to detail and additional services that include a civilized morning wake-up, complete with coffee and tea room delivery, evening turndown and a complimentary concierge. The inn is also socially conscious using local products from area farms in its gourmet prepared breakfasts.
If these accommodations aren’t romantic enough, couples might like the Duck Inn, Whitefish TLC Bed-and-Breakfast, The Firebrand Hotel, The Lodge at Whitefish Lake and Grouse Mountain Lodge.
Round out your weekend in Whitefish with night skiing on the cross-country ski trails at Glacier Nordic Center, snowshoeing in nearby Glacier National Park, a horse-drawn sleigh ride at Bar W Guest Ranch or experiencing the nightlife found at restaurants, wine bars and watering holes along Whitefish’s Central Avenue.
Couples who need a little urban spice in their romantic weekend getaway might want to consider Billings, Helena, the state capital, and Missoula.
Billings is Montana’s largest city. Like any large city, it offers visitors a lively downtown, walkable brewery district, mouth-watering restaurants, and unique lodging, including the Northern Hotel.
The Northern Hotel is the downtown district’s anchor providing an upscale atmosphere that’s ideal for couples, especially its special Everlasting Love Package that features accommodations, rose-petal turndown service, and dining credits.
While in Billings, tour the Yellowstone Art Museum and Moss Mansion Historical House, catch a performance at the Alberta Bair Theater or a drive to the nearby mountain town of Red Lodge.
Helena offers visitors an incredible history that can be seen when strolling through the city’s walkable downtown, mansion district, natural pools at Broadwater Hot Springs and delectable dining options, including the elegant On Broadway and Lucca’s. Plus, travelers will find a dreamy stay in the Great Northern Hotel’s sophisticated rooms.
Western Montana’s urban hub of Missoula provides a beautiful setting for romance, with the Clark Fork River running through downtown. The heart of the city, Higgins Avenue, is home to locally owned boutiques, restaurants, shops, live music venues and breweries. As an added bonus, Missoula sits at the confluence of three valleys and provides easy access to outdoor recreation opportunities that include snowshoeing in the Rattlesnake Wilderness, hiking Mount Sentinel, fat biking or urban fly-fishing.
For a romantic overnight getaway, consider a stay at the Gibson Mansion Bed-and-Breakfast, Blossoms Bed-and-Breakfast, the Holiday Inn Missoula Downtown or The Resort at Paws Up, located a 30-minute drive from Missoula.
