Summer might be over, but the music hasn’t ended quite yet. There’s still time to rock out at Fabulosa Fest happening September 24 – 27 in Yosemite.
Up to 500 women will flock to Yosemite for the women’s music festival to dance in the woods to R&B / Hip Hop duo THEESatisfaction, Southern punk band Thelma and the Sleaze, Jazz vocalist Greta Jane, Psychedelic Rock band Hearts of Animals and of course some festival favorites, such as Shake It! Booty Band, and more.
DJs Chelsea Starr, Glitter Disco, Olga T, Pony Mane, and Siobhan Aluvalot will keep the music pumping in the woods between live performance and workshops during the four-day festival.
This is the second year that the eight year old festival will be hosted at Spinning Wheel (Forest Rte 1S30; 209-962-0301;
“We are going strong and we are growing every year,” says Judea Eden, founder of Fabulosa Fest.
The festival outgrew its former locations in Guerneville, where it started, with 150 women heading to Northern California’s wine country and later Walker Creek Ranch in Petaluma. Last year the organizers took a huge leap moving the festival to Yosemite and making it official, an official nonprofit that is.
The “boutique festival,” as Judea describes it, benefits community organizations.
This year’s beneficiary organizations are Mountain Crisis Services and Causa Justa.
Mountain Crisis Services is a domestic violence and sexual assault organization that provides direct services to women and children in need. Causa Justa is a social justice organization building community leadership for low-income residents of Oakland and San Francisco.
Of course there will also be yoga and plenty of workshops from art to health and well-being or you can lay by the pool or take a dip in the fresh water spring.
“We found this wonderful, absolutely wonderful place in Yosemite,” Judea gushed, her voice melodic and excited talking about the trees, natural swimming hole and swimming pool. “It’s so beautiful. It’s so peaceful. It’s so lush. This is the best out of all of our spots.”
She’s pleasantly surprised that festival followers have been excited about the move to Yosemite, some of whom have never been to the national park, but have it on their bucket list.
“Oh, I’ve always wanted to go to Yosemite,” Judea says attendees new and old told her and that they were now going to make a vacation out of the festival.
