Do you hate cruising? For years, I thought I did, too. I went on a transatlantic cruise as a teenager, and by about the fourth overcast, 50°F day, I was scanning the horizon for icebergs, because an emergency evacuation would at least have been something to do.
Years later, I went on a booze cruise out of Los Angeles. That jaunt didn’t include much time on land, either. When we did disembark, it was in Ensenada, Mexico, which is essentially a dusty, tequila-soaked suburb of San Diego whose name, I’m pretty sure, means “three-day hangover” in Spanish.

The café in the Pacific Northwest coastal town was shaking with laughter as Portland-based comedian Belinda Carroll delivered the laughs straight up (so-to-speak) during the first annual EDEN Pacific Northwest.
This year the Portland-based comedian is back as a part of the comedic crew – that includes Julie Goldman and D’Lo – to deliver those punch lines that will leave the women doubled over in laughter during the all-girl weekend getaway in Seaside, Oregon, October 2 – 5.

Sheila Escovedo, better known as Emmy and Grammy nominated Sheila E, is singing her own songs and drumming to her own beat these days.
Sheila E hit it big in the 1980s with songs “The Glamorous Life,” “A Love Bizarre,” and her collaboration with her friend and former lover Prince, “Erotic City.”
The Oakland native, who currently lives in Los Angeles, is following up the released her latest album, Icon, at the beginning of the summer with her tell-all memoire, The Beat of My Own Drum: A Memoir, available September 2.
