Provincetown Is Aiming To Make The Guinness World Record For Largest Lesbian Wedding On The Planet With Bride Pride In October

by Heather Cassell

Provincetown is hoping to break a record by marrying at least 100 brides for Bride Pride on October 15 during Provincetown’s legendary Women’s Week, October 10 – 16.

Award-winning political humorist and LGBTQ icon who is a Provincetown, Massachusetts resident Kate Clinton will perform the nuptials.

“Nothing says World’s Largest Lesbian Wedding like Provincetown and I’m thrilled to be a part of it,” says Kate.

The all-girl mass wedding is the brainchild of Allison “Alli” Baldwin and Ilene Mitnick, owners of award-winning French inspired six-room Roux Bed and Breakfast, who hope to gather more than 100 brides on their beautiful grounds that wraps around the newly renovated Victorian in the East End Gallery district of Provincetown.

“If there are at least 100 couples, the brides will become part of recorded history,” says Ilene, who along with Baldwin applied to the Guinness Book of World Records in an effort to capture the title for “World’s Largest Lesbian Wedding.”

“Provincetown is filled with stories of love, equality and adventure and it’s meant to be shared with lovers,” adds Ilene.

“It’s the perfect backdrop for a wedding,” says Ilene, who wants to “create an amazing experience” for the women at one of Provincetown’s newest accommodations. “It will be the coolest wedding setup ever with events leading up to and following the event and, oh, the whole planet is invited,” says Alli.

After the ceremony, the whole town will turn into a party for the newlyweds as they join thousands of women in hundreds of events planned for Women’s Week.

“Events like Bride Pride remind us all of another great day on June 26, 2013 when the LGBT community filled the streets across the country to celebrate the defeat of the Defense of Marriage Act,” says Tony Fucillo, director of Provincetown of Tourism. “What better place to celebrate LGBT marriage equality than Provincetown?”

Provincetown was named the “Best Gay and Lesbian Resort Town in America,” by GayCities.com, he noted.

The couple plan to make a donation to Gay and Lesbians Advocates & Defenders on behalf of the record breaking brides in honor of all of the “the work they’ve done to make a day like this possible, as well as to support the battles they still wage on a daily basis for our equality,” says Alli.

The Roux is located just 500 feet from the Provincetown Harbor, a 15-minute walk, and MacMillan Pier, which features the ferry terminal and the Whydah Pirate Shipwreck Museum.

At Roux, guests can enjoy wine and appetizers during happy hour around 5:30 p.m. and the fireplace in the dining room. They can relax in the library filled with comfortable overstuffed chairs and sofas perfect for reading or get outdoors on the terrace and covered porch or around the grill and chill with other guests.

The mass all-girl couples wedding will take place on the grounds of Roux Bed and Breakfast (210 Bradford Street; 508-487-1717; RouxProvincetown.com) at 11 a.m. on October 15. Advanced reservation is required to go on record for history. For more information, visit www.rouxprovincetown.com/bride-pride.
