AA Reaches Out to African American Travelers

by Heather Cassell

American Airlines is bringing African American travelers closer into its fold with the launch of AA.com/BlackAtlas, the company announced in a news release July 3.

The microsite replaces the standalone BlackAtlas.com bringing it under the AA banner.

The move is a continuation of American Airline’s dedication to diversity and serving a wide variety of travelers and the communities they represent, including the lesbian and gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender traveler with the AA.com/Rainbow, according to the release.

“We believe it is important to reach out to the diverse communities we serve,” says Rob Friedman, vice president of marketing of American Airlines. “The site’s content will continue to evolve.”

Similar to the AA’s Rainbow microsite, African American travelers will be able to learn more about what the airline is doing for the black community and what it has to offer from deals and products to working with key national African American advocacy organizations. The site also provides travel tips and culturally relevant destination and event suggestions for the black traveler.

“Currently, we are working on expanding the site’s list of upcoming events and cultural destinations and will feature promotions and sweepstakes on BlackAtlas throughout the year,” says Rob.
